“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).

“I’m my own person, I can be whomever I want to be, I can do whatever I want to do. I don’t care what people think of me.” Have you ever heard someone say that? Maybe you have said those things or similar things yourself.
For the most part our culture breeds an individualistic attitude in us, but at the same time it doesn’t work. If you pressed someone on it and they’d be honest, every single person would have to admit, “No, I really don’t want to be disrespected by everyone in the world, I don’t want everyone to think I’m an ignorant fool, I don’t want to be totally cut off from all human relationships.”
You see, everyone longs for the approval, admiration, acceptance from someone else. Everyone longs for the admiration of the person they admire the most. You simply cannot bless yourself. We were created to long for relationship.
But the problem is, you will never be secure if you’re looking for your approval from someone who is fickle, who bases their acceptance of you on your performance, who will disappoint you, fail you, let you down.
But that’s why these verses are absolutely incredible! Your approval doesn’t come from sinful humans. No, it comes from the LORD! The LORD blesses you with everything you have, the LORD protects you with His power, the LORD graciously sent His Son to rescue you for eternity, the LORD worked faith in your heart to believe in Jesus and gives you peace!
And the LORD isn’t just blessing a big blob of people either. In the Hebrew, the word “you” is singular. He blesses you, yes you- individually, personally!
You see, in your Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – you have all the approval, acceptance, and admiration you need eternally! HE blesses YOU!
Blessed by my God, just like you,
pastor
