“But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God” (2 Chronicles 26:16).

“I want things on MY terms!” Ever say something like that or think something like that?
Uzziah did. He was a king, he was very successful, he was very talented…he was also a believer. But what was his problem? He wanted God, but on his terms not God’s. So, Uzziah defied God’s Word and decided to do his own thing.
Do we want God on His terms or on ours? “I know what you say, God, I know you say this is wrong, but, I think I know better than you so I’m going to do it anyway.” That’s deadly pride. God revealed Uzziah’s sick heart by giving him sick skin, leprosy. Uzziah would live out the rest of his days physically miserable and in seclusion. That’s what pride does.
Do we want God on His terms or ours? If God dealt with us on our terms, on who we are, we’d be lost forever. Thank God that He deals with us on His terms and in His ways! Why so? Because God deals with us always in love and in the best interests of our souls. God’s terms led Him to send His own Son to rescue us from our filthy pride with His self-sacrificial love when He died for us on the cross.
And God’s terms lead Him to deal with us by using whatever means possible to preserve us in our faith and lead us to our eternal home with Him forever. God’s terms are way better!
Liking God’s terms, just like you,
