St. Mark’s Confirmation Instruction

Our congregation believes that religious instruction begins with the family in the home and is ultimately the responsibility of the parents toward their children. We are, however, glad to be of assistance in teaching your children the gospel of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Lutheran Church. For that reason we offer confirmation class instruction that leads to the rite of confirmation, where your child(ren) will make a profession of the faith that was given to them in their Baptisms, that their faith is their own confession and they intend to follow that faith and teaching throughout all of their life.

St. Mark’s offers two confirmation class options.

  1. For the children who attend St. Mark’s Lutheran School – In addition to regular Bible history classes, children begin confirmation in 5th and 6th grades with Principal Nathan Bitter. In 7th and 8th grades Pastor Nitz teaches a class called “Growing in Christ.” There is a series “A” and a series “B” that covers Luther’s Small Catechism. The class is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:55 am to 9:45 am. To find out more information about St. Mark’s Lutheran School, please visit the school website found here.
  1. For the children who do not attend St. Mark’s Lutheran School – Parents are encouraged to enroll their children in our St. Mark’s Sunday School program where they will learn the basic accounts of Bible History. For more information about Sunday School please visit our Sunday School page found here.

Beginning in the 6th grade children will be enrolled in confirmation class that begins with the First Year class that meets every other Wednesday during the school year from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. In this course the children will study the major accounts of Old Testament Bible History. In the Second Year class children will meet every Wednesday during the school year at the same time and study the major accounts of New Testament Bible History. Finally, in the Third Year class the children will meet every week and study the basic doctrines of the Lutheran Church. We will be enrolling students in the First Year course for the 2016-17 school year. If you have a child in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade that has not had confirmation instruction, please consider enrolling them. The class begins September 7th 2016 at 4:00 pm at St. Mark’s.
