“When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to is disciples, ‘As you know, the Passover is two days away- and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.’ Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled…and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him, ‘But not during the Feast,’ they said, ‘or there may be a riot among the people.’” (Matthew 26:1-5)

What happened on Tuesday of Holy Week? Jesus set the time of His arrest and death. Every time I read those verses I’m amazed at the context. What irony! While Jesus is telling His disciples that He’s going to be arrested and put to death right during the Passover feast, His enemies are determining to do it after the Passover.
And, of course, when does it happen? During the Passover! Right when Jesus – not His enemies – determined!
There’s a couple beautiful truths in this. First, who’s in control? Who is making the decisions? Who is calling the shots? Jesus is. The same is true today. Perhaps we can look at the world and think powerful people with lots of money and lots of influence are in control. But the reality is, they’re not. Jesus is still in control and guiding all things for His purposes and the blessing of His people. It was true at the time of His death and it is still true today.
Secondly, if Jesus knew when He was going to be arrested and crucified, do you think He could have avoided it if He wanted to? Sure! But…He didn’t. Jesus didn’t interfere, didn’t run away, He allowed them to arrest Him in His timing. Why? So that He could willingly die on a cross to win the forgiveness of YOUR sins!
A Savior who is in ultimate control and who loves you so much that He willingly went into death to save you, what more could you want?
Thankful for such an amazing Savior, just like you,
pastor
